Terms of Use
Last updated: October 26, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Cesar Villescas ("we", "us") for using Saga, our journaling app and website. By creating an account or using Saga you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Saga.
1. Who can use Saga
You must be at least 13 years old (or older if your country requires it) and able to agree to these terms. You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens under your account.
2. Your journal belongs to you
You own everything you write, record or upload ("your content"). You give us a limited permission to store, process and display it only so we can run Saga for you, including the AI features you use (see section 5). We do not claim ownership of your content and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Using Saga responsibly
Please do not use Saga to break the law, to harm or harass others, to upload content you have no right to, to attack or overload our systems, to reverse engineer the app, or to access someone else's account. We may suspend or end accounts that do.
4. Beneficiaries
You can name beneficiaries in Saga. Naming someone is not a will, trust or other legal or estate document, and it does not by itself transfer anything. Today Saga only stores the details you enter and does not give beneficiaries access to your journal. If we add a way for beneficiaries to request access, we will explain how it works, and update these terms and our Privacy Policy, before it applies to you. For legal advice about your estate, please speak to a lawyer.
5. The AI companion
The companion and the daily note are written by AI. They are meant to help you reflect. They are not a therapist, doctor, lawyer or financial adviser, and they can be wrong. Do not rely on them for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions. If you are in crisis or think you may harm yourself, contact your local emergency number (in the United States, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or someone you trust. How AI uses your content is described in our Privacy Policy.
6. Saga Plus subscription
Saga is free to use. Saga Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription with additional features, including the companion chat and memory.
- Billing: payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. The price and billing period are shown before you subscribe.
- Free trial: if a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel first.
- Renewal: the subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Cancelling and managing: manage or cancel in your Apple ID settings (Settings, your name, Subscriptions). Deleting your Saga account does not cancel your subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.
- If your subscription ends, your journal stays yours and keeps working; the Saga Plus features switch off.
7. Apple's license terms
If you use Saga on an Apple device, Apple's Standard License Agreement (the Apple Media Services "Licensed Application End User License Agreement", available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/) also applies to your use of the app. This agreement is between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Saga, and Apple is not responsible for claims relating to it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement for the Apple license terms and may enforce them against you.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep Saga available and your journal safe, but we cannot promise that it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or discontinue features. If we ever shut the service down, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to save your journal.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings, then Account, then Delete account). We may suspend or end your account if you break these terms or if the law requires it.
10. Disclaimers and limits of liability
Saga is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties and we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, lost data or lost profits, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or US$50 if you paid nothing). Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you, and nothing here limits rights you have that cannot be waived.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Mandatory consumer protections in your country still apply.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is important, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Using Saga after that means you accept the new terms.
